Jónshús

Jónshús (Jón‘s house) is named after the leader of the Icelandic independence movement in the 19th century, Jón Sigurðsson. Jón lived on the 3rd floor, along with his wife, Ingibjörg Einarsdóttir, from 1852 until his death in 1879.

The house is owned by the Icelandic Parliament, Althingi.

Jónshús houses, amongst other things, the restored home of Ingibjörg and Jón, open to visitors, the community center for Icelanders in Copenhagen, and a library.
